Tradovate and NinjaTrader: who owns Tradovate, and what it means for automated orders

Autoview · Guide · Updated October 6, 2026

The short answer

Yes, NinjaTrader bought Tradovate. The deal was announced on January 12, 2022. Tradovate's own website still lists Tradovate as part of NinjaTrader Group today. NinjaTrader itself changed hands later: Kraken says it completed its acquisition of NinjaTrader on May 1, 2025.

If you automate Tradovate orders with Autoview, none of this changes your commands. Autoview talks to Tradovate's API with your Tradovate login and key. The details are below.

The dated facts

Every line here comes from the company's own announcement or website, checked on October 6, 2026.

  • January 12, 2022. NinjaTrader Group, LLC "announced that it has acquired Tradovate Holdings, LLC," in a deal the release values at $115 million. Tradovate launched in 2016 under founder Rick Tomsic, who joined NinjaTrader's executive team as Chief Strategy Officer. Source: Tradovate's press release.
  • March 20, 2025. Kraken announced it "has entered into an agreement to acquire NinjaTrader" for $1.5 billion, subject to purchase price adjustments, with closing expected in the first half of 2025. Source: NinjaTrader's newsroom and Kraken's blog.
  • May 1, 2025. Kraken wrote: "Today, we completed the acquisition of NinjaTrader." Source: Kraken's Q1 2025 update.
  • Today. The footer on tradovate.com says NinjaTrader is "a group of affiliated companies operating under NinjaTrader Group, LLC," and names Tradovate among them, next to NinjaTrader Clearing and Kraken Derivatives US.

One gap worth naming: Kraken's two posts name NinjaTrader and do not mention Tradovate. The link between them comes from Tradovate's own footer, which places Tradovate inside NinjaTrader Group.

What changes for automated Tradovate orders

For your Autoview setup, nothing changes because of the ownership news. Here is what the connector does, read from Autoview's code (not a live test):

  • It talks to Tradovate's API directly. Live orders go to live.tradovateapi.com and market data requests to md.tradovateapi.com. The Sim connector uses demo.tradovateapi.com and md-demo.tradovateapi.com. The Tradovate connector has no NinjaTrader or Kraken address in it.
  • It signs in with your Tradovate credentials. Your Tradovate login and your API key (the CID and Secret) go to Tradovate's own login endpoint. The parent company plays no part in that sign-in.
  • It follows Tradovate if your account moves. When Tradovate's login response names a different host for your account, Autoview uses that host instead of the default one. So if Tradovate moves accounts between servers, the connector picks up the new address from Tradovate itself.
  • Your commands stay the same. In the browser extension, e=tradovate still means live and e=TRADOVATESIM still means Simulation. On the webhook platform the webhook stays tied to the Tradovate account you connected. The syntax in the Tradovate command reference is unchanged.

What Autoview does not control: your Tradovate account, whether you qualify for API access, and what market data costs. Tradovate sets those rules. If they change, the change comes from Tradovate, and the pages below track Tradovate's current wording.
